Final Phases in the Custom Home-Building Process

As the final stage of the home-building process, the finishing phase usually gets a lot of attention. During the finishing stage, your house starts looking like a home and your dreams and hard work of planning become a reality.
Insulation/Drywall
Insulation is one of the most important steps when building your home. It will ensure that your home is as energy efficient as possible. There are many factors to consider when choosing insulation, such as your climate, design plans, and your budget. When deciding on insulation, consider higher R-value insulation because it will provide a more effective thermal efficiency. After the insulation phase is completed, the drywall is installed and taped, and a primer coat is applied to the walls and ceilings.
Installation Phase
The fun begins in this stage of the custom home-building process. The selections that the homeowners along with designers, made early in the planning process, are being installed inside the home.
There are so many details that happen during the finishing phase of the custom home-building process including:
- Flooring, trim, and baseboards
- Doors and shower doors
- Interior painting
- Wall features including stone or tile details on fireplaces
- Custom cabinets and built-ins are made, painted, and installed
- Countertops
- Lighting throughout the home
- Plumbing fixtures
- Appliances
- Bathroom fixtures (including sinks, tubs, showers, and toilets)
- Hardware details
Landscaping
This phase is ongoing during most of the home-building process. It is an important step that should not be overlooked, and the planning for the landscape happens early in the home-building process and will get wrapped up during the finishing phase.
Final Inspection/ Walkthrough
When all the finishing phase details are completed, the home is ready for the final inspection. There is also a final walk-through with the client to make sure that the home meets expectations. The final inspection is the last detail that will allow the homeowner to occupy and live in the home.
